Maria Savona is Professor of Innovation and Evolutionary Economics at SPRU, Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex, UK. She was previously at the University of Cambridge, UK, University of Strasbourg and Lille 1, France. She is an economist and holds a PhD in Science and Technology Studies from SPRU. 

Her main research interests are on the impact of innovation on employment and wages; the economics and policy of innovation in services; the structural change of the sectoral composition of economies, and particularly on the international fragmentation of production involving services, and their effects on development; the effect of barriers to innovation. 

She is an editor of important international journals such as Research Policy. In her carrier she has led and co-led international grants, advised and produced reports for international stakeholders, participated to committees for national and international governments, NGOs, and academic institutions.

Bjørn T. Asheim is full Professor of Economic Geography and innovation theory at the University of Stavanger, Norway. He initiated, was co-founder, deputy director and director of CIRCLE at Lund University, 2002-2012. He has been editor of Economic Geography and of Regional Studies. In 2011 professor Asheim became an Academician at the British Academy of Social Sciences. He is one of the internationally most well-known researchers within economic geography and regional innovation studies. He has pioneered theories of regional innovation systems and learning regions, and has developed the differentiated knowledge base approach, which today is widely used by innovation researchers.

Frank Moulaert is Em. Professor of Spatial Planning at the KU Leuven, Belgium. He was a Professor of Economics at USTL Lille (France) (1986-2002) and Professor of European Planning and Development, Newcastle University (UK) (2002-2008). 

He holds a Ph.D. in Regional Science, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and an M.A. in Econometrics, University of Leuven. Frank Moulaert has coordinated 7 EU sponsored research projects on social exclusion, social innovation and urban redevelopment. He received three Marie Curie Fellowships (Reggio Calabria, Lesbos, Naples) and was holder of a Leverhulme Trust Fellowship (2006-7). His is an international authority in research on the relationship between social innovation and regional and urban development.
